Gerwyn Price and Daryl Gurney head to Leeds for Premier League Darts this week knowing their fate is out of their hands as they bid for places in the semi-finals.

With Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen already guaranteed a spot at finals night, two more places are up for grabs, with four men fighting it out for them.

James Wade and Mensur Suljovic hold those spots at the moment, and if they can beat Cross and Van Gerwen respectively, then they will (almost certainly) hang onto them – but that is no easy feat.

If they stumble, then Gurney and Price will be ready to pounce, with Superchin playing Michael Smith and the Iceman taking on Peter Wright.

Depending on other results, a draw could be enough for either man, but it is sure to be a topsy-turvy night in west Yorkshire as the pendulum swings from one player to the other.

Both men missed the opportunity to go into the final league match in the top four when they shared a 7-7 draw last week, ending in some shenanigans on stage between the two.

‘At the start of the league I would’ve taken this position but going back five or six weeks I would’ve been disappointed for the situation to be out of my hands,’ said Price.

‘Last week’s game meant a lot to me, I knew I needed a win or at least a draw and I should’ve won. But it didn’t go my way and I’ve got to move on now.

‘If I don’t go through it’s still been a brilliant year for me in the Premier League, even though I drew too many games. I’m going to keep being me and playing my own game.’

Gurney was happy to come away with the point against Price, in the end, and knows the task ahead of him against Smith.

‘For me, that game was the biggest of the season,’ said the Northern Irishman. ‘He was the far better player and probably should have won the game, and I did well to get a draw..

‘I came away with a very important point. If I’d lost that game and Gerwyn had won it he would have been in the driving seat to qualify for The O2, but we got a draw so if Gerwyn wins [in Leeds] I’ve got to win.

‘I think it leads for a very interesting last week, and I know it’s going to be a very difficult game against Michael Smith. He is a sleeping giant right now – the most naturally gifted player there is on the circuit.’

Ahead of the final set of games, the bookies are convinved that Wade will do enough to qualify, and they are backing Gurney to join him.

Despite Suljovic going into Leeds in fourth place, he is the outsider of the four men to reach the semis, with Price given a fighting chance in the odds.
