A US Army veteran plotted to blow up a white supremacists’ rally with nail bombs to avenge the New Zealand mosque massacre.

Mark Domingo, 26, was arrested Friday over an alleged plan to blow up the Nazi rally in Long Beach, California, the following day.

The former US Army infantryman, a convert to Islam, is said to have called for jihad online and spoken of his desire to avenge last month’s massacre at Christchurch’s Al Noor mosque, which killed 50.

Domingo, of San Fernando in California, is said to have been caught after trying to set up an explosives deal online.

His searches came to the attention of FBI agents, who discovered that Domingo was also trying to find three-inch nails to us as shrapnel. They delivered what Al Noor believed to be a live bomb, but which was in fact a harmless fake – then arrested him.

An arrest affidavit explained: ‘Domingo said he specifically bought three-inch nails because they would be long enough to penetrate the human body and puncture internal organs.’

The affidavit continued: ‘After considering various attacks – including targeting Jews, churches, and police officers – Domingo decided to detonate an IED (improvised explosive device) at a rally scheduled to take place in Long Beach this past weekend.

‘As part of the plot, Domingo asked his confederate – who actually was cooperating with the FBI as part of the investigation – to find a bomb-maker, and Domingo last week purchased several hundred nails to be used as shrapnel inside the IED.’

Last month’s massacre saw suspect Brenton Tarrant is accused of bursting into the mosque during Friday prayers, before live-streaming himself shooting 46 men and four women dead.

Domingo is also said to have considered attacking the Santa Monica Pier, and discussed the idea of a drive-by shooting using an AK-47 assault rifle.

He reportedly referenced the October 2017 Las Vegas massacre tha killed 58 country music festival goers, writing: ‘America needs another vegas event …(to) give them a taste of the terror they gladly spread all over the world.’

Domingo has been charged with attempting to provide material support to terrorists, and is being held in jail ahead of a preliminary court appearance.
